Nagpur: , one of the seniormost BJP MLAs, who represents Malkapur in Buldhana district in Vidarbha has been appointed as chairman of Vidarbha Statutory Development Board (VSDB). This was announced in Mumbai by revenue minister, Chandrakant Patil.
Another Vidarbhite, Dr Sunil Deshmukh, BJP MLA from Amravati, has been appointed vice-chairman of Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (VIDC). Patil also named MP Sanjaykaka Patil as vice-chairman of Krishna Valley Irrigation Development Corporation while Dr Yogesh Jadhav was appointed chairman of Rest of Maharashtra Development Board Corporation.
The appointments of state-run corporation chiefs are essentially political in nature, but for some unexplained reasons, even after taking over reins almost three-and-a-half years ago, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had not bothered to fill up these posts except for one or two corporations.
Sancheti is a five-term MLA having family’s close association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) but being a self-effacing politician, he has stayed away from power politics and is not known to have hankered after cabinet berth or any political post.
Similarly, Sunil Deshmukh was a minister of state in the Congress government earlier, but after he joined the BJP in 2014 he was not given ministerial berth. Incidentally, Deshmukh has held the post of VIDC vice-president 18 years ago during his Congress days. “The only difference was that time it was of minister of state rank post and now it has been upgraded to Cabinet rank,” he told TOI.
