GURUGRAM: In a bid to attract more investments in the logistics and retail space, the state government has decided to provide increased (FAR), assistance in land acquisition, rationalisation of external development charges (EDC) among other benefits in its Logistics, Warehousing and Retail Policy that will be unveiled in August.
The highlights of the draft policy were revealed at a round-table conference held in the city on Monday, where industries and commerce minister met representatives from the logistics and retail industry and sought their suggestions and feedback on it. “Our idea behind launching this policy is to position Haryana, especially Gurugram, as a logistics, warehousing and retail hub for northern India and with its geographical advantage, it fits the bill. However, we want the policy to facilitate the business rather than restrict it, and hence we have invited the suggestions from the industry,” he said.
Goel also said the suggestions and feedback would be incorporated in the draft and eventually the final policy will be launched in August this year. The policy will largely focus on regulatory simplification, fiscal incentives, infrastructure augmentation and human capital development.
Devendra Singh, secretary IT, Haryana government, said that as a part of the policy, the state government would be developing a logistics hub in Bawal and three other retail hubs. “We are yet to finalise the location of these hubs, but they would be announced soon,” he said. Talking about the policy, Singh said that the government has appointed KPMG as the agency to draft the policy and “it’s looking at other states and their policies for best practices as well”. In terms of retail, the government plans to increase the FAR to 200 and extend the operational timings of the retail outlets from 5 am to 11 pm.
“We had also received suggestion for allowing women to work in all the shifts in the retail sector and we are evaluating if it is feasible,” he added.
