Government to acquire 3-acre school land for hospital

GURUGRAM: is all set to expand soon. The state government has come up with a plan to acquire three acres of the adjacent Government Senior Secondary School for the of the hospital.
“The plan is to build a multi-storey building here. The school will not be completely shifted but three of a total of its four acres will be acquired for the expansion of the Civil hospital.

“For the time being, children studying in 11th and 12th standards will continue their studies here, while students of other standards will be shifted to other government schools of the area,” PWD minister Rao Narbir Singh told TOI.

Rao Narbir’s comments came after a high-level meeting in the city on Monday, which was also attended by the state’s additional chief secretary (health) RR Jowel. “The expansion of the hospital is in line with an announcement made by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar,” the minister said.

Officials also inspected the school land before the meeting. After the acquisition of the school land, the hospital will be expanded to around 10 acres and the work may start within two months once a formal approval is given by the state government, an official said. The hospital is currently spread over six acres.

The 200-bed civil hospital is the largest government health facility in Gurugram.

However, the hospital is inept for thousands of people who visit it every day. The proposal is to add 100 more beds and upgrade the existing dilapidated infrastructure.

Civil surgeon of Gurugram, Gulshan Rai Arora, said the proposal would soon be drafted and presented to the higher authorities for an approval. “The meeting was successful and a drawing will be made and presented to senior officials in Chandigarh,” he said.

Sources told TOI that there is also a plan to convert the hospital into a medical college.

As of now, the school has around 800 students enrolled in it. When the proposal for shifting them was floated, a number of students and parents had protested in the streets resisting the shift.
