BHUBANESWAR: BJP will hold demonstrations on Monday in different districts and sub-divisions across the state protesting the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the state government in securing the key of Ratna Bhandar of Puri Jagannath temple.
From Tuesday onwards, the party will conduct a week-long stir across the state and stage demonstration in front police stations as a mark of protest. The agitators will lodge FIRs at the police stations against chief minister for not taking enough steps to protect the keys, said the party statement.
Samir Mohanty, BJP’s state vice president, announced this while addressing media persons here on Sunday. He said party workers will organise Deepdan (offering of earthen lamps) programmes at Jagannath temples across the state as a mark of protest in the issue.
“The state government had the information regarding missing of Ratna Bhandar keys since April 4, but it remained silent and did not take any legal steps until the information came to public through different medium. It is a type of criminal conspiracy to keep silent and not taking legal actions soon after knowing the truth,” said Mohanty.
He said the state government has set up a judicial commission to buy the time to divert the attention of public from the issue. “Supreme Court’s order to probe the mismanagement of temple showed the government’s mishandling the temple issue. Why chief minister is silent over the issue? We need answer,” he added.
BJD spokesperson Samir Das, an MLA from , said the state government is taking appropriate steps on missing key issue. “The BJP should not use this issue to get political mileage. Our government is very sensitive about it,” he added.
