AGRA: Two wanting to get married to each other, have approached the seeking protection from their parents, who are objecting to their relationship. They have threatened to commit suicide if they are not allowed to live together.
According to police, the girls, aged 20 and 18 years, arrived at the station with an application, expressing their desire to get married. Both are working in and have been in a relationship for the past 2-3 years.
Their parents were called at the police station and efforts were on to resolve the issue but the girls seemed adamant to get married. Police said that parents of both the girls went back after their resistance.
Talking to media, the 20-year-old girl, who plays the male role, said that “loving” ones friend is not a crime and they both don’t bother what people say about their relationship. She said, she wants to stay with her “girlfriend” but their parents are not approving it. She said, “I cannot live without her and I don’t know why anyone has an objection if we are ready to stay together”. She said, police has given an assurance to them that they will resolve the issue.
The other girl (18) told media that they can’t live separately. She said, “We are not going anywhere, just want to stay together”.
Superintendent of police (city), said that police is checking the legal provision in such cases. He said, prima facie, same sex marriages are not allowed. He said, they can’t commit suicide as it is against the law. They both are at women police station.
